Wrong Side of Customs has partnered with Moroccan fragrance house Kkuny Parfums for a special limited edition iris collection, a nod to the house’s celebrated stunner, Opia.
Using Opia’s creme d’amande-and-powdery iris dominant base, the collection features 3 iterations:
Version 1: “Opia Stateside” - Opia + sugar, pod vanilla, honey. This is Kkuny’s celebrated Opia — but taken just a little further into the western world via sweetness.
Version 2: “Opia Saffron” - Opia + saffron tincture, Moroccan naturals. The most natural iteration of a warm saffron, layered atop classic Opia.
Version 3: “Opia of Fez” - Opia + sacred Moroccan serghina tincture, olibanum, orange flower, soft oud. Opia of Fez is for those who want to experience something unique and authentic — almost ceremonial. This is a fragrance that needs skin; we do not recommend judging this one on paper. The opening is a jarring ceremony, it’s the drydown that makes it sacred.

I spent 30 minutes on the phone with my friend Salah in Morocco just now, asking him to help me describe Cheri Marrakech to a western audience.
He replied, متحكمش عليها من النوطات العطرية فقط هاد العطر كيتعتابر تجربة فريدة - “Don’t judge it by the notes, this fragrance is a unique experience.” (I promise this sounds more beautiful in Darija.)
Cherry pulp and fraise, sugar, benzoin, guaiac wood, soft oud and incense - this one conjures the precise incomparable feeling of fresh fruit juice from the vendor carts in Jemaa el-Fna square in the summer, with the market aura hanging in the background air.

Have you ever met someone on accident and hit it off immediately? Nessma is the result of a chance meeting that became WSOC’s first partnership with a woman perfumer in Morocco.
Vanilla, white musk, coffee, patchouli, orchid, tonka bean, fig leaf, brown sugar, amber, woody notes, pink pepper, jasmine sambac and orange blossom — it may sound complex, but Nessma will be a crowd pleaser.

Made in the medina of Marrakech, this composition of cinnamon, ambrette, Berber rose, fleur d’oranger, soft musk and agarwood has joined the permanent collection. “Tlata” is the number “3” in Moroccan Darija, celebrating the third fragrance in the collection made exclusively for Wrong Side of Customs.

It was only supposed to be an evening in the souks, but it became our second woman-owned partnership in a week after stumbling upon the “best sandalwood we’d ever smelled.”
Desert sandalwood and lightly-spiced Moroccan vanilla.

About the Collection
Morocco is a magical place, but one often reduced to postcards: tiled courtyards, sunlit riads, the soft illusion of stillness over the Sahara. But just beyond the frame is something far more alive - something visitors only truly begin to understand after repeat visits. It is a country built on movement, trade and craft. Markets hum with negotiation, workshops pulse with skill passed through generations, and every object carries the imprint of human hands. The souks are not staged, they are systems. What looks like exotic beauty casted for the perfection of Instagram photos is, in truth, a living economy built of skill that’s become rare to find… complex, resilient, and quietly brilliant.
Wrong Side of Customs was born from a deep love of a country (and its art) that doesn’t belong to us, but that we can experience through the generous hospitality of its artists and artisans. Each piece that makes its way to your hands is sourced, carried, and offered in limited form. No mass production. No permanence.
Most Westernized fragrance is designed to please quickly - bright, familiar, gone before you can question it. Moroccan perfume is something different: oil-rich, expression-heavy and alive. They unfold on the skin, shifting with the heat of you, molding themselves into time and memory.
We partner specifically with micro-batch artisan perfumers who create custom blends for our fragrance community on demand. Because this is not “corporate, standardized” perfume, what you receive may deepen and smooth out as it rests and continues the maturation process in the bottle. Please be clear that these are not the same kinds of perfume you are used to, and they will need a short rest to recover from their journey to you. Inside each box from us is an invitation: to slow down, link to the culture beyond the bottle, and honor the nuance of something formulated just for you — something that was never meant to be static.
What you smell first is not the point - what is becomes is.
